Public Spaces Program

The Public Spaces Program strives for improving quality of public space that is an integral part of our environment. The Program focuses at creation and revitalization of public spaces in villages and towns that are used as places for every day life and meeting places. Incorporating users of public space into planning and developing process is our key working principal.

We want to create such public spaces that are functional, esthetically attractive and that are central to public, cultural and business life of a village or a town.

The Public Spaces Program was established in 1996. Project for Public Spaces, inc. (PPS) from New York City were in the beginning of the Program’s activities and helped with its development. Long lasting experience of PPS became the major philosophy of the Program in the Czech Republic. Several pilot projects had been funded from resources of Rockefeller Brothers Fund and with assistance of PPS.

Recently the Program administers grants and assistance program in Prague and facilitates discussions on public spaces in several towns in the Czech Republic. The program also published guidebooks to four public participation methods such as Community Visioning or Placemaking in Czech language.
