Josef Vavrousek Award

Josef Vavrousek Award has been organised by Nadace Partnerství and Charter 77 Foundation since 1996. The aim of the award is to commemorate Josef Vavrousek who was the first federal Czechoslovak minister of the environment and great promoter of sustainable development in Europe and worldwide. Meeting of all European ministers of the environment in 1991 in Dobris was his personal effort that later became a process called Environment for Europe. Vavrousek’s legacy remains a significant inspiration for greater respect towards environment and cooperation across various sectors of the society. The award is given to an outstanding person every year who made a significant achievements in sustainable development. The Award ceremony is organised on the World Environment Day.


Nomination of a person for the Award can be done by anybody. A special committee made by experts from the field of environment and personalities of public life selects the prizewinner from nominations every year.

Miroslav Janík
Miroslav Janik is a founder of Kosenka non-profit organization that is a respected conservation and community organization in White Carpathians. He was nomited for his outstanding effort for nature conservation in White Carpathians and uniting various stakeholder groups for the protection of natural and cultural heritage in Walachia, Czech Republic.


Ivan Dejmal, in memoriam
Ivan Dejmal was awarded in memoriam for his lifetime work for environmental protection. He was an active part of oposition to communist regime since his studies. He was at the biginning of Charter 77 activities and leader of its ecological commission. He was one of the first Czech environmental ministers and was active in nature conservation field in particular. He was together with Josef Vavrousek a co-founder of the Society for Sustainable Living.
